My thoughts on Vivienne in Paris

Vivienne in Paris by Maria Castellucci Moore invites readers of all ages on a charming exploration of the enchanting city of Paris through the eyes of a young Parisian girl. This delightful children’s book takes us on a journey where Vivienne discovers the magic in the everyday moments surrounding her.

The narrative gracefully weaves together Paris’s sights, smells, tastes, and sounds, painting a vivid picture of the city that becomes a character in itself. The story is a celebration of mindfulness, encouraging readers to embrace the world around them and find joy in the smallest of things. Vivienne’s adventure becomes a lesson in the art of observation as she learns to look at her favorite things with a newfound sense of mindfulness during an afternoon bike ride through the streets of Paris.

One of the book’s strengths lies in the author’s descriptive style, which effortlessly transports readers—both young and old—right onto the charming streets of Paris alongside Vivienne. The rich and vibrant illustrations further enhance the reading experience, capturing the essence of the city and complementing the narrative beautifully.

The heart of the story lies in its ability to unite curiosity, wonder, and marvel, inspiring readers to appreciate the world around them. As Vivienne navigates through the city, the narrative encourages a deeper connection with one’s surroundings and emphasizes the profound impact that even the smallest things can have on our spirits.

Maria Castellucci Moore has crafted a captivating children’s book that goes beyond mere storytelling. Vivienne in Paris is a gentle guide, encouraging mindfulness and fostering a sense of appreciation for the beauty surrounding us. It’s a delightful journey that entertains and leaves readers with a renewed sense of wonder and joy. This beautifully illustrated book is a must-read for anyone looking to embark on a Parisian adventure filled with whimsy and discovery.

Why Paris, you ask?

The magic of Paris shines brightly as the setting for my book, Vivienne in Paris. To my surprise in the fall of 2019, my boyfriend Bart and I embarked on a fun whirlwind trip to the City of Lights to meet his family, vacationing there. We woke up on our first full day in Paris, overlooking the busy neighborhood streets just steps from the Louvre. This day happened to be our one-year dating anniversary.

What to do, I thought? Perhaps a Parisian breakfast at the neighborhood cafe to start the day or a stroll through the Luxembourg Gardens? We chose both! A delicious Parisian breakfast and then a walk to the Luxembourg Gardens to enjoy the sights and relax in the park, pretending to be locals 🙂

As we strolled past the cutest old gentleman playing pétanque, we arrived to the top of a grand staircase overlooking a Medici Fountain and the most magnificent palace I had ever seen; it took my breath away! The Palace de Luxembourg. As I stood in admiration, I turned to signal Bart and found him on one knee, right there!

I had NO IDEA and was completely surprised! He proceeded to speak for minutes gushing about me and us and I truly don’t know what else, as I got lost in him and couldn’t focus on his words, just his mouth opening and closing! “Will you marry me?” “OH MY GOD, YES,” I said. It was the happiest day of my life and to this day I will never forget how fun it was to be surprised and then be able to celebrate with his family in Paris!

And Voila, just like that Vivienne in Paris was born!
