The 06-07-2024 Weekly Friday Finds are live with Indie Author news, new trivia, 3 hot new book releases, a blog catch-up, DIY flower boxes, and 3 summer recipes!
Welcome to the 06-07-2024 edition of the weekly Friday Finds. I trust you are doing well.
I’ve had a very productive week. I’ve read some great books, reviewed a few of them, cleaned the house, rearranged furniture, and now it’s time to tackle the projects, big and small, that I earlier switched to the “if you have time” list!
I haven’t heard back from the German relatives yet about the exact date they will be here. But I’m trying to be ready regardless. Since we suspended the big Barn Party during Covid, and only brought back a smaller version last year, I’ve forgotten how much work goes into a big friends and family reunion! But I love having everyone together.
We are missing a few very important and loved family members who passed away this year. As the circle of life goes on, we are welcoming a couple of new babies.
Do you have any big summer (or winter for my southern hemisphere friends) plans and gatherings? You can share your news in the comments section.
Until next week, Peace & Love to you!
Gina

My Go-To Pickled Red Onions from Lindsey at Pinch of Yum
It’s a fact: pickled red onions make everything better. A little extra bite, a little extra tang, and those beautiful ribbony bits of purple and pink. This is one of my favorite fast and easy ways to make any meal a little (lot) more exciting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One Bottle-Vermouth Sangria from Bon Appetit
This one is fast to make and can be kept in the fridge for a week. (Sure, it will last that long!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Grilled BBQ Pork Tenderloin from Tricia at Saving Room for Dessert
You can use your favorite BBQ sauce, but if you don’t have one, I highly recommend trying our Honey BBQ Sauce recipe. It’s easy and quick and has the right amount of tang to season the pork, and the honey caramelizes beautifully on the exterior.

A New York Times bestselling author’s entertaining take on a quintessential outdoor experience—and why sometimes the best memories are a result of the unexpected—with laugh-out-loud illustrations.
A family’s excited to go camping! But they don’t know what they’re doing, and it does NOT go well. Then they see Campingland, a perfect indoor camping theme park! Perfect temperature. Perfect “fishing.” Perfect “animals.” But…PERFECTLY BORING!
Will they give outdoor camping another try? Be a little more prepared? A lot more relaxed? And NOT hug any skunks this time?

Margo’s Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe
Blisteringly funny and filled with sharp insight, Margo’s Got Money Troubles is a tender tale starring an endearing young heroine who’s struggling to wrest money and power from a world that has little interest in giving it to her. It’s a playful and honest examination of the art of storytelling and controlling your own narrative, and an empowering portrait of coming into your own, both online and off.

The Uptown Local; Joy, Death, and Joan Didion by Cory Leadbeater
A brilliant debut memoir about a young writer—struggling with depression, family issues, and addiction—and his life-changing decade working for Joan Didion
The Uptown Local explores the fault lines of class, family, loss, and creativity in hypnotic prose that pulses with life and longing. It is a love letter to a cultural icon—and a moving testament to the relationships that sustain us in the eternal pursuit of a life worth living.

Weekly Friday Finds | 06-07-2024 | Trivia Time
This week’s trivia question is:
What is the main ingredient in traditional Japanese miso soup?
The answer to last week’s question:
What were the first hockey pucks used in early outdoor hockey games made of?
The first hockey pucks used in early outdoor hockey games were made of chunks of frozen cow dung. This material was readily available and would freeze solid, making it a practical choice for the game. As the sport evolved and moved indoors, the materials used for pucks changed to improve durability and playability. Eventually, the modern hockey puck, made of vulcanized rubber, became the standard.
