In the daily rush to get to school and work, check the alerts on our phones, worry about scary monsters (AAAHHHH!), and keep up with our favorite shows, it can be easy to lose sight of the most important thing in life―love.
But from kindly crossing guards to thoughtful neighbors to our closest friends and family, love is everywhere. It’s in the smell of Mom’s freshly baked croissants. It’s in the wag of a dog’s tail. It’s in a teacher’s warm greeting at the schoolhouse. And it’s in a goodbye kiss from Dad as he makes his way to work.
When the world sometimes feels uncertain and the sky feels gray, just look around and notice how love can melt your worries away.
Lyrically written and lavishly illustrated, What I See Is Love is a heartfelt and unforgettable reminder for children and adults of all ages that you don’t have to look far to discover life’s most valuable treasures.

“What I See is Love” by Gabriella Fiorletta is a delightful children’s book that reminds readers of all ages to find love in the everyday moments of life. In a fast-paced world filled with distractions and worries, this book encourages children to pause and appreciate the love that surrounds them.
The story takes us on a journey through a bustling day, from the morning rush to school and work to the anxieties of dealing with imaginary monsters. Amidst this chaos, the book beautifully illustrates how love can be found in the simplest of things. From the smell of freshly baked croissants to the wag of a dog’s tail, from a teacher’s warm greeting to a goodbye kiss from Dad, love is everywhere if we just take a moment to notice.
Gabriella Fiorletta’s writing is lyrical and poetic, making the book a joy to read aloud. The language is accessible to young readers, and the rhyming text adds an extra layer of charm to the story. The book’s positive message of finding love in everyday life is reinforced through its easy-to-read pages and fun, colorful illustrations.
Nyrryl Cadiz’s illustrations are a true highlight of the book. They are not only visually appealing but also perfectly complement the text. The diverse community represented in the book adds to its inclusivity and relatability for readers from various backgrounds.
This book is a wonderful addition to any library or home bookshelf. Lessons From a Seven-Year-Old
It’s funny how much a seven-year-old can teach you about life. At what age do we begin to worry about others’ opinions? When do our insecurities take over, and that fear of taking risks becomes more apparent? Remember when you could walk out of the house in mismatched clothes, funky hairstyles, and winter boots during the summer… without fearing judgment? Me either!
Writing presents its own set of fears and insecurities, but I want you to tackle it like a seven-year-old! I’m not saying to walk around looking like Betsy Johnson’s protégé unless you want to; begin writing without that fear of criticism. For years, I had written story after story and created character after character. None of which were ever published. I had visions of my children finding these stories long after I was gone and questioning why I was never brave enough to publish them. Quite frankly, writing leaves you very vulnerable.
When the Covid-19 pandemic was at its worst, my husband went on a deployment. During that time, I watched as my best friend buried her husband after losing his battle with the illness. I felt so alone and terrified. Covid brought on new fears, but my desire to keep a sense of normalcy in my children’s lives was stronger.
Nothing is more gut-wrenching than your child asking, “Mama, if you get Covid, will you die”? I didn’t have an answer, but I knew I would try my darndest to make my children feel safe and secure. When my daughter told me, “When I look at you, I see love,” I knew I was doing something right, but I also realized how much I was pretending.
I didn’t want to pretend to be brave; I needed to be brave and with that, I began pursuing my dream of becoming an author. If you have dreams of becoming a writer, go for it. If you have plans to apply for that job promotion, go for it. If you want to wear those winter boots to the pool, go for it!
Tackle it fearlessly, bravely, and boldly. Just like a seven-year-old!
