Your Friday Finds 4-9-21 #IndieApril #Giveaway
Indie April celebrates Independently Published Authors. Many of the books on my favorites list are by Indie Authors. They have to fight to gain readers and self-promote their books, but they have more control over their work from start to finish. One of the hardest things is to gain reviews for their work. Amazon will not even let them promote the book until they have a set number of reviews.
I would like to have a giveaway where my readers can win a copy of the book, with the only stipulation being they leave a review on Amazon when they finish the book. It doesn’t have to be an in-depth analysis, just a couple of lines about the book. Authors, let me know if you would like to donate a copy (digital or print). For all my readers, authors included, would you like to receive a free book for just a few words in a review? Please let me know your thoughts.
This week’s comment contest offers you a choice of prizes. You can choose to be the featured author on my BookShop or have an author profile & interview on the website. If that prize doesn’t interest or apply to you, you can choose a gift card instead. Are you a fellow blogger? Perhaps you would like to be featured on the sidebar of my website for a week.
Last week’s contest winner is Carol from Reading Ladies! She has a wonderful book review blog. Please give her site a visit.
I’m certainly enjoying the chance to interact with each of you and share the love.
Now let’s move on to the finds for this week.
Your Friday Finds 4-9-21 – Books on my list
The Amazon Encounter by John DeBoer
A shaman in the Amazon rainforest has a problem: children in his village are dying of an unknown ailment. When a large disc-shaped object falls from the sky onto a riverbank, he enters the object through a gash in its wall.
A prominent Beverly Hills plastic surgeon is staying in the house of his pediatrician cousin, who is away for the weekend. He goes to sleep that night in the guest room and awakens the next morning lying on the ground in a jungle.
Thus begins a story of aliens, teleportation, and telepathy involving unwitting physicians, the Pentagon, international scientists, espionage agents, a Las Vegas gangster, and a psychic. A colorful cast of characters takes the reader on an exciting, and often amusing, journey from the Amazon jungle to southern California, and eventually to the NBC television studios in Manhattan. Side trips along the way include Moscow, Beijing, North Korea, Sao Paolo, Brazil, and the infamous Area 51 in Nevada.
An Unexpected Turn by TJ Fox
When I take a good look at my reflection, I’m surprised that the face looking back at me in the mirror doesn’t look different than the one I’ve seen staring back at me for the last 27 years. I see the same brown hair and brown eyes, the same heart-shaped face, the same upturned nose. I feel like I should look different. That my face should show the upheaval and the weight of the last day, that it should somehow show how much has happened, how the course of my life has changed, but everything is still the same.
Dog Man: Mothering Heights by Dav Pilkey
Dog Man is down on his luck, Petey confronts his not so purr-fect past, and Grampa is up to no good. The world is spinning out of control as new villains spill into town. Everything seems dark and full of despair. But hope is not lost. Can the incredible power of love save the day?

Hi Gina,
Hope you and the family are well. Thank you for the weekly recs.
Hi Gina,
Hope you’re doing great. I’ve been so busy lately. Love visiting your page as often as possible. You’ve got such rich content ♥️
The frozen fruit salad is yummy – likewise, the easy smores poke cake. The Amazon Encounter seems like a wonderful read. Would get the kindle version.
Have a blessed week.
Chika.
I can give away a hard copy of any of my books (6 of them) Also, all my books are on Kindle Unlimited if one wants a free book that way!
Thanks for the offer, Eric. I hope you get some takers.
Hi Gina, I hope you are doing well! Authors are not allowed to require a review on Amazon. We are allowed to request reviews, ask for reviews, beg for reviews, but we are not allowed to require reviews when we give our books away. It’s in Amazon’s rules.
Hmm. I’ll have to rethink that option. Maybe I’ll just request a review on any site the reader wishes to leave the review?
I’ve been lowkey interested in Dog Man because I grew up on Captain Underpants
I’m still drooling over those recipes, but wiped myself and decided to share this with all my Twitter friends!
I’m not a published author but what I can offer is to read and review books as long as they are in Print format. I have 2 blogs, on Bookbub, Goodreads, Amazon and LinkedIn. I try every book and genre and author and author at least once to see if I like.
I have a few books that I can send to you if you are interested. You can check them out on Goodreads or Amazon and if anyone of them interest you, I can send you a copy to review on your blog and websites.
Hello Gina. Thank you for supporting Indie Authors. I will donate a digital or paperback copy of my novel, Weapons of Remorse to your project.
Awesome news. Very kind of you Chevron.
Thank you so much for helping to share my book baby!
The sheetpan quesadilla looks amazing! I plan to try it when it’s safe for the family to get together. I went over to Reading Ladies and bookmarked that to read when I have leisure time. It is a nicely laid out site.
Oh my goodness! I’m a winner?! Thanks, too, for the shout out Gina! I’m thrilled we’ve found each other in this vast virtual universe! 🙌
