My thoughts on Back to Grandmom

Back to Grandmom by Jessica D. Adams book cover image

Janelle is ready to travel back in time to visit Grandmom once again as she & her sister did in Meeting Grandmom. th

However, older sister Janiece doesn’t want to go. There are no electronics, just antenna TV, radios, and some cassette tapes in her Mom’s youth. She is at that stage where friends, cell phones, and all the modern conveniences feel so important.

When Janelle decides to play with her Mom’s old cars, she & Janeice bump heads and are thrown back to 1990 once again.

While there, they have a chance to interact with Grandmom and get to know much more about her and their mother as a little girl. This trip is especially poignant as they know their grandmom is in the beginning stages of cancer. The girls get to visit with both their grandparents, learn about favorite snacks, toys, and work together in a way they don’t do at home.

This delightful, nostalgic look back in time offers many opportunities to open discussions with children about all their modern conveniences, as well as, remembering and honoring relatives that have passed on.

The illustrations for this book are beautifully done by the author’s daughter Janelle. I love the way Jessica and both her daughters work together to produce their series of books. It’s always a joy to have them on the blog.

This is my honest, unbiased opinion of a book I own.

About Jessica D. Adams

Jessica D. Adams, Author Profile Image

Jessica D. Adams writes children's books about The Underground Toy Society that aim to teach children to love and appreciate what they have, think of others, and hopefully clean their rooms.

Jessica's two daughters are the inspiration for the books, as well as co-illustrators for many of the books. Jessica also wrote a short time travel chapter book, Meeting Grandmom, which is a great story for kids as well as adults to remember or talk about lost loved ones and family history.

Jessica has visions of The Underground Toy Society traveling around the world, with many books being created to help teach children to clean their rooms, appreciate what they have, and think of those who may not have as much.

While the goals of the books are to help kids want to clean their rooms, appreciate what they have, and think of others, there are no guarantees that kids will learn these lessons. These books are for entertainment purposes and individual results may vary.
