Jeremy Lewis has just returned from a year in Europe, ready to start college in Alabama and pursue his dream career in the National Hockey League. Life is looking pretty darn peachy.

But when his parents are brutally murdered in a mass shooting, merely surviving each day feels like an achievement. How can he get through college and keep his budding career on track when all he wants to do is drink and squander his parent’s fortune? Can he convince Chelsea he’s a changed man when he seems so intent on his own destruction?

My thoughts on Four Letter Feelings by Lasairiona E McMaster

Four Letter Feelings is the first book I’ve read from this author. While it did take me a while to warm up to the style and pace, I did become invested in the story.

Let’s be honest here, Jeremy is a jerk. He has a lot of inner goodness that he doesn’t let out often and seems to hide his better traits with crass joking. The author takes her time developing the story, and we see Jeremy grow and evolve.

There is plenty of tragedy and drama in the main character’s lives. They tend to mask their feelings with sex and alcohol, which seems relatively common of people this age. The book does contain language and sexual encounters, but no details.

I loved the open way depression, grief, and suicide are portrayed throughout the story. It’s nice to see a glimpse of real-life in a HEA.

Please be aware that this is book one of two, so much of the story is devoted to character development and storyline setup. However, it does leave you anxious to read more, so I am interested in the next book. I may even find time to add AJ and Lisa’s series to my TBR.

About Lasairiona E McMaster

Lasairiona E. McCallister Author Photo

Lasairiona McMaster grew up dreaming of an exciting life abroad. After graduating from Queens University, Belfast, traveling is precisely what she did - with her then-boyfriend, now husband of almost ten years.

Having recently repatriated to Northern Ireland after a decade abroad spanned over two countries (seven and a half years in America and eighteen months in India), she now finds herself 'home', with itchy feet and dreams of her next expatriation.

With a penchant for both traveling and writing, she started a blog during her first relocation to Houston, Texas and, since repatriating to Northern Ireland, has decided to do as everyone has been telling her to do for years, and finally pen a book (or two) and get published while she tries to adjust to the people and place she left ten years ago, where nothing looks the same as it did when she left.

Lasairiona McMaster writes sassy, classy, and badassy women and strong, yet vulnerable men. She challenges readers' expectations by openly dealing with mental health issues, often exploring tough-to-handle topics and 'taboos' and books with a whole lotta heart.

She can either be found enjoying a gin and lemonade by the Irish sea or baking sweet treats in her kitchen while singing at the top of her lungs. When she's 'home' in Texas, and isn't eating fresh-popped popcorn while buying things she has absolutely no need for in Target, she can be found at Chuys eating her body weight in chips and queso and washing it down with a margarita swirl.
