Weekly Friday Finds | 10-11-2024| Recommendations and Reviews
Welcome to the Friday Finds for 10-11-2024.
How are you doing today? I hope that if you or your loved ones were in the path of the latest hurricane, everyone is safe and has minimal damage. This is getting to be way too much of a habit. These frequent gulf storms have caused me to rethink my plan of living there part-time. I don’t think I’m cut out for boarding up the house, packing up, and evacuating.
The BBNYA Semi-finalist spotlight tour has begun! I signed up for all 59 spots, so you are going to get a look at one semi-finalist every day from October 4 through December 4. I hope you enjoy the ride. Don’t forget to give the authors a shout-out. This year, the competition was incredibly close, with only fractions of points separating the books. Every one of these books could have been the winner! They deserve all the kudos and love!
Ellwynn A. won the last trivia contest. I’m going to take a short hiatus from the trivia game to see if there are more participants when it returns. And maybe a little because I am overwhelmed with reviews, and donations are down. I count on those to keep the blog running and offering prizes. I’m also pausing the Author of the Month Award until I can find a better way for you to vote for your favorites. Suggestions, please!
Until next week,
Gina

Weekly Friday Finds | 10-11-2024 | Books
What are you reading this week? I recently added these to my queue.
Forge of the Assasin by Ross Harrison (Review coming soon)
– A sci-fi thriller and sequel to Church of the Assassin –
Codename Ares. A legend. A ghost story. They say that seven years ago, she rained down hell from the stars, cutting through everyone in her path: cops, intelligence officers, assassins. All for a baby girl. They say that if she really was just one person, she died under a thousand tonnes of rubble.
They’re wrong.
Alexiares has kept Baby safe for seven years, staying one step ahead of assassins and hunters. But one step isn’t enough. Not when their new enemy reveals himself. Her worst nightmare becomes reality: Baby is ripped from her. Taken to be made into the perfect assassin – something Alexiares promised she wouldn’t allow.
The clock’s ticking and her failure is almost complete. She must work out why she’s still alive while staying ahead of the assassins, a government task force, and the malevolent whispers of her own broken mind. She must find a way to rescue Baby. And she must remind them all of one thing…
She is the only thing they fear. Buy on Amazon

The Bad Luck Nickel by Matthew Leslie (Review on November 11, 2024)
When Blair Matthews, teen celeb and son of rock legend, The Blade, shows up at a high school in Montreal amidst rumors of a drug-fueled sex scandal, it’s the most excitement the students at Trudeau High have seen in years.
And when Marco and his twin sister Julianna become fast friends with Blair, it seems like a dream. For Marco, Blair lifts him out of his post-breakup funk, and joins his band, The Bad Luck Nickel, instantly making it one of the hottest groups in town. And for Jules, Blair is her celebrity crush come to life in her living room.
But can Blair leave his past behind and start fresh at Trudeau High? Or will his infamy follow him from LA to MTL? Buy on Amazon

New Adoption Book & FREE Digital Coloring Book from Tom Tracy
Just in time for National Adoption Month in November, I have started a campaign to bring awareness to my newest book, Wonderfully You: An Ode to Adoption. This beautiful book is inspired by our oldest daughter’s adoption experience. As such, it highlights LGBTQIA+ families and transracial adoption. It is also my first book written entirely in rhyming prose, which helps make it a “read again and again” kids’ book.
The Kickstarter campaign is currently active and will close on November 2. The campaign offers many great reasons to visit it:
- The only way to get a copy of the Limited Edition
- Discounted pricing and bundle options with even bigger savings
- The opportunity to gift a book to another adoptive family
- Some LGBT family swag
- A free pdf version of the companion coloring book just for visiting
All Books From the Kickstarter Campaign Will Be Delivered To U.S. Backers In Time For December Holidays.

Thank you so much for featuring the Kickstarter campaign for my new kids book, Wonderfully You: An Ode to Adoption. I appreciate you!
The books you mentioned sound so good, especially Choice.
Thank you so much for including my blog, and my art page!
We’re reevaluating our forever home too, but not because of hurricanes, fires, and earthquakes, Our lovely street had a piece of land at the end of it which will now have 400 units specifically offered to low income and mentally challenged residents. The traffic alone will double, and property values–well anyway–we are compassionate people and just wish they could have picked another parcel. Any idea where we should go? 😆
Thanks for the mention, Gina, and I wish that we could have a real coffee together some day, craft a bit, and chat about good books. I love your weekly posts and look forward to them as a refreshing intermezzo for busy Fridays …
That would be so fun. I need more simple things like that in my life. If I ever get back to TX, let’s make it happen!
