πŸͺ‘ From My Reading Chair

This week, I'm revisiting a story where the past won't stay put and spotlighting a fantasy where dragon stories come alive.

Return to Yesterday's Tomorrow by Bryan Prosek

Return to Yesterday's Tomorrow by Bryan Prosek review banner

What if changing one moment in the past could erase an entire family from the future?

I first shared my review of Bryan Prosek's techno-thriller in September, and I'm bringing it back for another look. Its altered timelines, conflicting memories, and puzzle-like mystery kept me turning the pieces over, while Tripp's search for the family no one else remembers gave the story its emotional heart.

🌟 Featured Author of the Week - Kenneth B. Andersen

Dark fantasy, big questions about good and evil, and a surprisingly funny trip through Hell.
This Halloween week, I'm celebrating an author whose imaginative Great Devil War series has been part of my reading life for years.

πŸ’ My Reflections

I first met Philip in The Devil's Apprentice, when an extraordinarily good boy is accidentally sent to Hell to train as the Devil's heir. I followed Philip through all six books, reviewing the first four along the way. After several years away, returning for The Fallen Devil this September felt like coming back to a strange, imaginative world I had missed. This final installment brought Philip's story to a satisfying close and reminded me why the series has stayed with me.

If you're new to the series, The Devil's Apprentice is the place to begin. If you've been following Philip already, my September review of The Fallen Devil revisits his final adventure.

Witch's Brew Punch

Bright green Witch's Brew punch topped with lime sherbet, lime slices, and gummy worms, with small pumpkins nearby

A bubbly, lime-green Halloween treat that's all fun and no fright.

This easy punch gets its bright color and frothy top from lime sherbet, with ginger ale, pineapple juice, and fresh lime adding the fizz and citrus. I adapted the recipe from Budget Bytes' Witches Brew (Halloween Punch).

Witch's Brew Punch

Makes: 14 drinks (8 oz. each)
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook/Bake time: None

Ingredients:

  • 2 liters ginger ale, chilled
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 1 quart lime sherbet
  • Gummy worms, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Pour the ginger ale, pineapple juice, and lime juice into a punch bowl and stir gently.
  2. Add the lime sherbet just before serving and stir slowly until the punch becomes foamy.
  3. Ladle into glasses, add gummy worms if you like, and serve while the foam is fresh.

🍴 Gina's Kitchen Note

Wait until everyone is ready before adding the sherbet. That's when the bubbly green foam is at its best. Lime sherbet contains some dairy, so check the label if that's a concern for your guests.

Whimsical Halloween ghost library with tiny reading ghosts, winding stairs, and miniature bookshelves on a flat wooden base

πŸ‘» A Hauntingly Cozy Little Library

Even ghosts need a cozy place to read!

Who says ghosts can't be bookworms? This charming Halloween library scene features tiny reading ghosts, winding staircases, miniature bookshelves, and just enough spooky magic to make any book lover smile.

What makes The Night Library especially interesting is its clever design. Although it has the appearance of a three-dimensional miniature library, the artwork creates that illusion on a flat wooden base. It's a whimsical decorative piece rather than a traditional 3-D book nook kit.

I love the idea of adding a little ghostly bookish charm to a shelf, reading nook, or Halloween display. It's playful, imaginative, and just the right kind of spooky for Friday Finds!
