Friday Finds on Tuesday! What does this mean?
It means I’m playing around with the newsletter and blog. Several readers have mentioned that they would like to get the Finds earlier in the week so they can plan for the weekend. After researching a bit, it turns out this might actually be a good idea. It may also fit my new daily schedule better. So, I’m giving it a try this week. What are your thoughts? Do you like the idea of using my recommendations to plan for your upcoming weekend? As always, hit reply and share your thoughts.
Books – Friday Finds on Tuesday!
From a Wonky Path to an Open Road by Janey de Nordwall
In 2019, BAFTA-winning film producer, Janey de Nordwall packed her bags (and her cat Kenny), fired up her 1970s VW campervan, and headed off from her London home to Scotland for a journey that would change her life. In this heart-warming, fresh, and joyful book, Janey captures the lucid beauty of her surroundings, remembers the pivotal moments of her eventful life, and reveals her most intimate thoughts.
NOTE: The Kindle edition is filled with montages of full-color photographs throughout the road trip so you’ll also get to see Kenny in action!
Nether Light by Shaun Paul Stevens
Take a journey through a world punished by a dark, imprisoned magic. A world where children are given poison, where your talent is decided by the state, where reality is breaking down.
When refugee Guyen washes up in the land of his enemy, he knows he will fight, but soon finds himself falling down a well of wonder and improbability.
Can he survive a system designed to oppress him, tame his anger to unleash his potential, see his enemy for what they truly are?
Nether Light is a gritty, heart-wrenching tale of high magic and high stakes, loves lost and friendships gained, set in an oil-lit, 18th-century world far, far away.
And it’s full to the gills with epic fantasy, plotting, scheming, and racy, jaw-dropping, immersive adventure. What more could you ask for? Grab a copy now.
For fans of Patrick Rothfuss, Brandon Sanderson, Neil Gaiman, Mark Lawrence, V.E. Schwab, Ed McDonald, Brian McClellan.
Please note: This book contains mature themes.

The Safe Return by Ashley Wheelock
★ Face masks on or off? This book flips to be read either way. It’s two books in one. ★
It’s a topsy-turvy world that children live in today, but the adventures must safely return. Face masks on or face masks off, this fast-paced, two-sided book takes kids through the ups and downs of a balance bike ride with friends. A stuffed bunny is temporarily lost, but a community is found.
No matter which way you read it, the book reinforces the joys and freedoms of childhood and advocates for a safe return to fun.
Perfect for Covid-19 and to normalize the wearing of masks. Yet, this book will remain in your collection when the crisis has ended.
Magic, Television, and Marijuana by Matthew Berkman
The stories you read change you. The shows you watch, what you listen to, the things you see on the internet; it all makes an impact on the person you are and the person you will become. We see the ongoing effects of this every day, in each individual we meet.
But what if stories were literally magic? What if you found a television show that was both ancient and supernatural? What if you were the star of that magic TV show and you had no idea why? This is the situation Mark, a former film student now stuck as a deli cashier; and Hannah, a dissatisfied teenager obsessed with fantasy novels and unimpressed with real-life; find themselves in. These two disaffected yet sympathetic characters are ripped away from their avenues of escape—fiction, pop culture, and legalized weed—and thrust into a world where giant media conglomerates commit supernatural corporate espionage and the few remaining members of an ancient magic race know as much about human pop culture as Quentin Tarantino. Full of insight, humor, humanity, action, and magic; Magic, Television, & Marijuana explores the consequences of the stories we grew up with and all the ways in which our media-driven world can change a person, for good or ill.

My finds arrived on Monday, not Tuesday, but I’m not particular about which day you send it. I saved the apple butter recipe and will try it as soon as I have more apples in the house.
Update: I also bought the “Wonky Path” book. It sounds like a refreshing break from an excellent book I’ve been reading that gives a disturbing view of how America has changed in the past 40 years.
Julia, the first email went out last Tuesday and my program resent it on Monday to everyone that didn’t open the first one. I think the plan going forward will be to return to sending it on Friday and let the email program resend to the unopened subscribers on Monday. My open rates have been down lately so I have been trying to figure out how to get them back up. If they get too low, my emails can be considered spam. I never want that to happen!
It doesn’t matter to me what day you post “the finds” because I’d read them when you post them. I do think that the majority of people are online more often on Tuesdays than on Fridays.
Hi Gina,
I love your content. Can always find a book I want to read and something delicious to make. I also like the name “Friday Finds” I am always a bit behind so the day your email arrive doesn’t matter to me.
The Find
Hi Gina Friday is the best! Friday finds ! I enjoy your site thanks Margie stay safe!
