💭 My Thoughts on The Grateful Green Dinosaur
The Grateful Green Dinosaur is a sweet and empowering picture book that introduces children to the practice of gratitude through the relatable struggles of Percy, a green dinosaur having a not-so-great day. From stubbed toes to burnt toast to rainy weather, Percy is convinced the universe is out to get him—until his friend Custard the unicorn gently shows him how to shift his mindset.
What makes this book shine is its gentle emotional intelligence. Custard doesn’t invalidate Percy’s feelings—instead, they encourage him to acknowledge them and then reframe his focus. This simple but powerful act of naming what we’re grateful for is modeled beautifully for young readers.
The illustrations are colorful and warm, the story is easy to follow, and the lesson is age-appropriate without being preachy. It’s a lovely tool for parents, teachers, and caregivers looking to help little ones develop emotional resilience and a more positive outlook.
