About John R. Dougherty
John R. Dougherty has spent his professional career working in information technology by day and dabbling in a variety of other diversions by nights and weekends, including a few decades of serving in lay ministry. While serving in this capacity he preached hundreds of sermons, taught countless Bible study classes, and wrote dozens of inspirational articles.
He enjoys golf, guitars, grandchildren, and all things Kansas City – the Chiefs, the Royals, Sporting KC, KC Symphony, and KC Broadway, to name a few. He thinks (if not for his long-lost metabolism of youth) he could eat the famous Kansas City barbecue every day…maybe not for breakfast, but lunch and dinner for sure!

My Writing Goals for the Next Year
Despite just releasing my new book, Holy Terror, which for me personally was an arduous effort, taking several years, I do have a lot of plans for upcoming writing projects. The process of writing this book was a major learning experience for me. I have written many expository, short papers in the past; however, writing a novel was a vastly different exercise. But having an excellent writing coach / editor, Melody Bussey (https://www.melodybussey.com), helping me over the last 2+ years, is really what got me to the finish line of my first book.
With my newfound knowledge, and of course employing my same writing coach going forward, there are 3 pending primary writing projects. Of course, I do not anticipate finishing all 3 within the next year, but I hope to complete 2 of those 3 within that year – which granted, is a very ambitious goal, since I still have a day job to work!
My first project is to write a study guide to accompany Holy Terror. While not all readers may find this of interest, anyone who is a student of the Bible might find such a study guide very useful. So much of the content of my story is based directly on events recorded in the Bible, I want to help anyone interested in discovering all those correlations.
I anticipate this project to be fairly short, certainly not novel-length. It could prove to be the basis of an interesting study class for Church groups to undertake, in having an alternative way of conducting a Bible study. Then beyond an ecumenical study, it would be a brilliant guide to have for book clubs as well.
The second project is the yet-to-be-named prequel to Holy Terror. The main character of the current book, the angel “Thumos”, is a somewhat complicated character. As I wrote this book, it became evident that a prequel story would be a great addition to Holy Terror to help show just how Thumos became who he is, as revealed in the current book.
I anticipate the prequel to be an even longer book than the current one because it will take the reader all the way back to pre-Genesis (the Biblical account of creation) and bring things forward to right where the current book begins. This prequel will no doubt present the reader with some aha moments, but also provide some fascinating surprises too.
Then the third project will be a sequel to Holy Terror (so yes, this is a trilogy book series!). The sequel is also yet-to-be-named, but it will pick up right where the current book has left off and take the reader on a very surprising, twisting, and turning journey that will undoubtedly provide the reader with some shock factor!
Hence, my ultimate plan is that 2023 will yield the Study Guide and the Holy Terror prequel, then 2024 will yield the sequel to Holy Terror. So…hang onto your hats, if you’re riding with me, your trip is about to get very bumpy! 😊
