Entering the witness relocation program after lawfully escaping a massive walled-in prison, teenage Merrill tries to fit into our society. Unfortunately, her background and decisions may not let her.

Excerpt from Maz, Origin
I heard shots being fired from below. They were aiming at the helicopter or the guy that landed on the scaffolding above me. The sign offered some level of protection, but they’d move into position directly below shortly. “It’s ok, miss, we’ll have you out of here in a jiff. Are you hurt?” The man began to wiggle through the bars, which was no small feat because he was wearing some sort of heavy armor.
He reached down toward me, and I hesitated, terrified of grabbing that hand and leaving my life behind. He clenched his teeth in frustration and urged me, “Come on, miss! Just take my hand.”
Gunfire from below decided for me. I lifted my good arm, and he latched onto me. As he jerked me upwards, pain shot through my shoulder and abdomen. I gave up life and slipped into darkness.

Top 10 Places Your Sci-Fi-Loving Socks Are Hiding
Socks disappear in the laundry. They have an argument with their match and flit off somewhere between the dirty laundry hamper and the folding basket. Where do they go? Try looking in these places…
10 – Neptune. An excellent vacationing place for the discerning sock. Shorter workdays, atmospheric scent to conceal even a garment from a 14-year-old jock who likes to wear things seven times before throwing them in the laundry.
9 – Paris. In the basement of a cocktail bar named ‘Belle Barre de Jungle Fleurie’, there’s a small door hidden by wine casks. Just beyond that door is perhaps the wildest sock rave to be found this side of Pluto, with blasting music and even a disco ball.
8 – The deep space explorer, Titjania Burtlem. The more mischievous sock tends to turn up here, clogging the intake valve on the starboard engine radiation diffuser. Rumors suggest the discovered miscreants are then used for wiping up damcon personnel blood and are jettisoned into space, but no sock has returned to verify or deny this rumor.
7 – 1ES 2344+514. Despite current scientific theories, the jet of ionized matter shooting out from 1ES 2344+514’s center is caused by the influx of socks arriving for the ongoing party.
6 – Craft drawers filled with buttons. Socks that are prone to daydreaming tend to go hide in craft drawers filled with buttons with the hope that the owner will attach eyes and make sock puppets out of them. Unfortunately, due to the sheer quantity of supplies that most crafters have, these socks seldom see their dream achieved as they are buried at the bottom of the pile.
5 – Sock Sphere at the deepest part of the Mariana Trench. Socks would prefer we don’t know about this hangout with its dual IMAX-sized movie screens showing sports 24-7. It’s populated by socks that once belonged to Sunday football game watchers. These socks are used to having their bottoms facing the screen and this amazing destination allows the tops to see the games too.
4 – Digitized for immortality. Unfortunately, if you find your sock here, you can’t get it back again. You can, however, stare adoringly at it for as many hours as you have remaining in your mortal life. You can never put your hands on it again.
3 – Alternate universe. Given the sheer number of alternate universes, the chances of finding your sock again are low. Rest assured that your sock is off exploring and learning great things about cultures that would teach us great wisdom about our own if the sock could tell us about it.
2 – The Great Sock War. Noble socks go here, fighting against the aliens that would invade Earth and destroy humanity. Even though they sometimes fall from a great height when teleporting, they do not die, as they are socks.
1 – Time travelling. Forward or back, it doesn’t matter. Your sock will not return to this time or near it again for fear of creating some massive time-paradox should it accidentally bump into itself again. One sock did this once upon a time and no paradox occurred, but after it coexisted with itself for a while, it discovered that it was only hanging out with its match and not an instance of itself. The threat of time-paradox remains.

Absolutely loved the fun, Sock Hiding post, Maz, Origin should be an awesome book!
Thanks for sharing it with me and have a magical day!
That was a fun guest post wasn’t it?
[…] Maz, Origin by T. L. Ford | Spotlight, Excerpt, Guest Post, and $50 Gift Card Raffle […]
Thank you for sharing your guest post, bio and book details, I have enjoyed reading about you and your work and I am looking forward to reading Maz, Origin. Are you a fan of Star Trek, Star Wars or both?
Thank you! Babylon 5. Firefly. Oh, ok, I’m a fan of them all. More Star Trek than Star Wars though. Easier to imagine myself flying around exploring the universe than huddled in a bunker in the snow playing war games. Which do you prefer?
Sounds like a great read.
Thanks for stopping by today , Sherry!
I hope you like it!
When you were a child, who were some of your favorite authors?
As a child, I liked books more than following any specific author, and I tended to read a varied collection. I broke my leg in middle school and couldn’t go upstairs to classes, so I lived in the school library for a couple of months. Best education ever.
Thanks for stopping by today, Nancy.
Sounds like a great book. Love to see an author who can build believable worlds that you neve want to leave.
Thank you! I try to create stories that pull you in and help you completely forget where you are actually sitting. Some of those sock locations would be fun to visit. Maz, Origin has a mix of good and bad locations. If anyone ever builds Colony One (as I wrote it), I’ll be in the first group to sign up.
Me too, Lou. Thanks for stopping by today.
Thanks for hosting!
