My thoughts on My Cat is Blue
My Cat is Blue deals with the loss of a beloved pet.
The story is told in verse from a small girl’s point of view. Her pet cat is feeling blue. The poor cat doesn’t like to do any of the things that used to bring it joy. Treats, toys, and chin scratches fail to bring out a purr.
Pay close attention to the color of the illustrations. In the early pages, the cat is blue, and the surroundings are gray. When the little girl can’t cheer her pet up, she also turns the color blue. We get our first hint of what might be wrong in the memory of another pet. The memory is in vivid color. As life improves, the color gradually becomes more pronounced until full color and happiness reign supreme.
I read the book with my 5-year-old grandson. We enjoyed it even though we were both quite sad at the beginning. We felt relieved and happy by the end.
The book opens a world of discussion options, including depression, loss of a pet, feelings, seeking medical help, pet adoption, and more.
In my opinion, many adults will benefit from reading the book just as much as children.
I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
