NetGalley November 2022 Follow-up
NetGalley is a fabulous resource for obtaining eARCs to read for the blog. However, they recommend you keep your feedback left to requested books ratio at approximately 80%. This is much easier said than done, as there is a constant parade of books available to reviewers.
Several of my fellow book bloggers and I teamed up for NetGalley November 2022. We planned to put a significant effort into improving our percentages.
I previously worked hard to hit that elusive 80% mark and get my badge for that achievement. Then, I promptly went on a requesting spree and sent my ratio spiraling down.
If I can read 14 books in November from my NetGalley shelf, I will succeed in reaching my goal. Now, considering my calendar and my previous commitments to blog tours, BBNYA, and author/publisher requests, I think it is highly unlikely I can read that many extras in November. However, I do believe my goal is reachable by the end of the year.
Hahahahahaha! Well, that was a hoot! I read a total of Four, two of which were on the original list.
During November, I only added one more, making me -3 for the month, which raised my percentage by 1. Then I was approved for two previous requests. So my rating is right back to 68%. But I am optimistic that the reader group I’m in will keep me motivated, and I’ll make progress soon.

These are two of the books I finished and reviewed.
A Secret Gift (Cornish Escapes Collection #1) by Amanda James
A Spying Eye: A Henrietta and Inspector Howard Novel by Michelle Cox
NetGalley November 2022 Follow-up List
The following two books have been reviewed on Amazon and Goodreads, but have not been reviewed on the blog.
Lilly and May Learn Why Mom and Dad Work by Anthony C. Delauney
Holly Holiday and the Christmas Forest by Katie Anderson

Well, that’s my dismal, but utterly honest tally! Yes, I do realize that two of these are children’s books, but since I frequently review that genre and they were on my NetGalley shelf, I deem them acceptable!
I hope to have more to report in January. I plan to make this a regular feature on the blog at least until I get back up to 80%.
Have you read any of these, or do you want to? I absolutely love discussing books. You can leave a comment here or look for me on Goodreads and Twitter. I usually respond quickly.
Other discussion topics:
- Do you mood read?
- Are you a book reviewer?
- What’s your favorite genre to read?
- Do you like to read the latest releases?
- Are you more fond of reading books that have been out for a while?
- Do you read the reviews for a book before you decide to invest your time & money?
NetGalley November 2022 Follow-up will be continuing as simply my Monthly NetGalley Report.

Gina – Netgalley is a real mixed bag from the author’s standpoint as well imho. First of all, it’s quite expensive even submitting by one’s IBPA small press publisher with a 50% discount for a three month run in the ‘read now’ category. Some excellent reviewers (such as yourself 🙂 thank you!! thank you!!) devote the time to an in depth read and review. As an author I very much appreciate both the criticisms as well as the compliments, especially since these are ARCs and confusion or misinformation can usually be clarified or corrected before the final copy goes to publication. Other reviewers, however, will simply skim thru the first few pages or leap frog thru a couple chapters, sometimes commenting about characters or situations in the book that don’t even exist, which I find rather hilarious, but nonetheless, irritating. ~ Mim
Thank you for the kind words, Mim. I have no understanding of how NetGalley, Edelweiss, BookSirens, etc work from the author’s end. But, I always appreciate the info so I can make better decisions on how I work with authors. I’ve heard of reviewers just leaving the same generic comment on every review on NetGalley. I don’t know why that is allowed. And why would you ask for a free book & not review it? I understand, not every book is right for every reader, but there are avenues to deal with that. We may have stumbled across some ideas for blog posts here. Lol
Anyway. Merry Christmas to you & yours and may the new year bring you peace, joy, & good writing vibes!
My ratio plummeted one time and it took me months to get it back to 80%. I vowed never again! I’m very careful now!
