My thoughts on A Secret Gift

An uplifting, feel-good tale of love, hope, and joy.

A Secret Gift Book cover image (ocean with a jar of pebbles

A Secret Gift is the perfect book to read at the beach, by a winter fire, and anytime between.

Joy is devastated by the death of her firefighter husband. In the three years since he passed, she has withdrawn into a shell. Hope, a resident in the care home Joy works at, gives her a unique gift before she dies. Joy is uncertain if she believes it or not.

Life blossoms again for Joy when she learns to accept her newfound gift.

It isn’t easy to write much about the book without giving away the magic. But, I can tell you, this tale will touch your soul. It reaches deep into your heart and gives hope and joy. There are those two lovely words that play such an essential role in the book.

While the cover is beautiful, after reading the book, the symbolism is striking. The writing is smooth and well-paced, and the descriptions of Cornwall made me feel like I was across the pond enjoying the area myself.

I highly recommend A Secret Gift to anyone that wants to perk up their week, loves a second chance romance, and sees the power of believing in a greater good.

I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

About Amanda James

Amanda James Author Profile image

Amanda James has written since she was a child, and as an eight-year-old, she asked her parents for a typewriter for Christmas. She never imagined her words would ever be published, however. Then in 2010, after many twists and turns, the dream of becoming a writer came true when she had her first short story published for a Born Free anthology. She left teaching in 2013 to pursue her dream full-time.

Originally from Sheffield, Amanda now lives in Cornwall and is inspired every day by the wild and beautiful coastline near her home. She has many suspense novels set there, but her last few books have been uplifting in nature with a twist of magic. She loves writing feel-good reads and has decided the world needs more joy in it right now, and her plan is to write many more novels in that genre. Amanda can usually be found playing on the beach with her family or walking the cliff paths planning her next book.
