October 2018 Book List Recommendations
Neutral: Curse of the Gods Novella #4.5 – Jane Washington & Jaymin Eve
Emmy finally gets her own story, and it’s a great one. Emmy was born a dweller and expected to die a dweller until Willa, her sister of the heart turned her life upside down. Now she is caught in a battle between the Gods, and her only hope is Cyrus, The God of light & neutrality. The same Cyrus that infuriates her by being existing. Can they work together to save Topia? They have no choice. Follow their story and enjoy the play between these two.
I would strongly suggest you start this series at the beginning with Trickery Book 1. I love every one of the characters in their own right, but each book does continue into the next book.
Fire: An Anthology by Elizabeth McCleary, Zoe Black, and several more.
Fire is such a tricky element. It can give life-saving warmth and purification, but in the wrong hands, it can destroy all. Twelve authors from around the world have come together to share their short stories in this first book of the Elemental series. Some of the stories resonated a bit more with me than others, but I think you will find it well worth your time to read.
The Monster in the Closet and Other Stories by K. Kris Loomis
This collection of short stories offers everything you need in a great story in short 5-10 minute reading blocks. These poignant, often humorous, contemporary short stories remind us how important human connections are in this crazy, yet beautiful world. Fifteen stories in all! I love short stories that pack a punch, and this book is full of those.
The Underground Toy Society series by Jessica D. Adams
The delightful series of children’s books follows the adventures of the Underground Toy Society who covertly go about saving abandoned toys which children have out-grown, are suddenly thrown out after a house cleaning, or become damaged and need a repair. The series includes holiday issues and tackles some tough concepts while being light & entertaining. The author’s children provide the illustrations, making the books even more special to read with your children.
Flash fiction is great when you only have a few minutes to read. This website is an excellent resource for quick stories.

Suspense, romance, humor, time-travel, and Highlanders. What more could you ask for from this best-selling author? More in the series, that’s what! Each book is a stand-alone but does have just enough of a cliff-hanger to leave you reaching for the next book in this series.

I found myself cheering for them as well as yelling for them to swallow their pride and accept their chance at love.
Book three in Emma St. Clair’s Billionaire Surprise series. I am new to this genre, but I found the entire series quite fun. If you are looking for a sweet, clean set of books, these are for you.
The Garment Maker’s Daughter by Hillary Adrienne Stern
The Garment Maker’s Daughter is a multigenerational saga of immigrant dreams and sweatshop realities, labor strikes and women’s rights. Spanning the first half of the twentieth century, this is a story about unforgettable characters and the threads of friendship, love, betrayal, and redemption that form the fabric of their lives.

Crossing in Time (Between Two Evils) Book 1 by D. L. Orton
If someone took everything you live for, how far would you go to get it back? In this sci-fi novel, Isabel takes a one-way trip back in time to see her murdered lover and try to set the world right again.
FALL INTO THIS EDGY, action-packed, darkly comedic, dystopian love story, and be prepared to encounter a finicky time machine, a mysterious seashell, and a very intriguing dog (some sex, some swearing, some violence, but no vampires and absolutely no ditzes.) Yes! I absolutely love Edgar Allen Poe for Halloween! I did a unit with my students on some of his works the week of Halloween. They loved it!
