Guest Post from Mike Alger, Author & Narrator of Snow Storm
“How would you describe your narration style?”
That’s a great question… And I think my style changes, depending upon the work that I am narrating. For
instance, with my own book, Snow Storm, my narrating style is just essentially “me.“ Since my book has
been described as somewhat of a “fantasy autobiography,” it’s quite easy for me to fall into the
personality of the main protagonist, a guy who doesn’t take himself particularly seriously, and can find
himself at a loss as to how to handle dangerous situations.
But overall, I have tried to adhere to a “less is more“ style of narrating. It’s very easy to try to turn in
audiobook into an audio theater… Which is really something completely different. Since I am the only
voice on the audiobook, I don’t want to make my female voices actually sound like they are spoken by
women. I don’t know that I’ve ever heard a male narrator pull that off to where it doesn’t sound either
campy or condescending.
There are very subtle things that a good narrator can do, however, to really bring life to a story, without
going overboard with giving every single voice a totally different intonation. Sometimes all it takes is
varying the pace of one character’s voice from another to distinguish the two. One could be slightly more
breathy than the other. Different pitches, of course, can distinguish voices, but it’s easy to go overboard
on that as well.
Generally speaking, I do have an upbeat style of narration, which I think lends itself well to more
humorous works, but it’s also a lot of fun to try to bring some real dramatic emotion to a scene as well.

One of the standout features of the book is the great narration, which adds depth and authenticity to the story. Alger’s attention to detail is commendable, particularly in the way he incorporates Northern Nevada references, making the setting come alive and adding an extra layer of realism to the story.
Readers have praised Snow Storm for its gripping storyline and the seamless integration of elements like danger, suspense, action, murder, assassins, and drug cartels. The book has received positive feedback, with readers commending it as a well-written and entertaining read.
