The 3 March 2023 Friday Finds are here with a new Author of the Week, Featured Blogger, Indie Author News, Book & Blog Roundups, Spring Recipes & Crafts.

Hello, my friend, and welcome to today’s Friday Finds!

Life is good here. Tom is no longer testing positive for Covid and is getting over the lingering sinus issues. I don’t know how it happened, but I did not catch it from him. Hallelujah! We are both fully covered by medical insurance once again. We had a short stretch of spring-like weather that allowed me to air out the house, which always makes me happy. So overall, things are looking pretty good around here. I am so blessed!

I hope you enjoy this week’s post and be sure you leave a comment below voting for your favorite find of the week.

Peace & Love

Authors! Do you have a new book releasing soon, a special promotion coming up, or any other news I can share with my readers?

In the reported book and author news this week…

From GL Robinson: the big news of the month is I made a donation of $390 to Sahar, an organization supporting women’s education in Afghanistan. Back in December, I said I would donate to them the proceeds from two of my books, Cecilia or Too Tall to Love and Rosemary or Too Clever to Love. You get royalties two months in arrears from Amazon, so the payment for December just arrived, and I made the donation today. Thank you all so much for supporting me and, more importantly, the unfortunate women in Afghanistan.

The American Adventuress book cover

The American Adventuress by C.W. Gortner

The story of Jennie Jerome Churchill, mother of Winston, a New York-born heiress who always lived life on her own terms.

Daughter of New York financier Leonard Jerome, Jennie was born into wealth—and scandal. Upon her parents’ separation, her mother took Jennie and her sisters to Paris, where Mrs. Jerome was determined to marry her daughters into the most elite families. The glamorous city became their tumultuous finishing school until it fell to revolt.

Fleeing to Queen Victoria’s England, Jennie soon caught the eye of aristocrat Randolph Spencer-Churchill, son of the Duke of Marlborough, one of Britain’s loftiest peers. It was love at first sight, their unconventional marriage driven by mutual ambition, and the birth of two sons. Undeterred by premature widowhood or society’s rigid expectations,

Jennie brashly carried on a lifelong intimate friendship with Edward, Prince of Wales—a notorious bon vivant—and had two later marriages to younger men. When her son Winston launched his brilliant political career, Jennie guided him to success, his most vocal and valuable supporter.

By turns scandalous, tragic, and exciting, Jennie Jerome lived an unconventional life full of defiance—one that enshrined her as an American adventuress.

The Irish Boarding House by Sandy Taylor

The Irish Boarding House by Sandy Taylor

24 Merrion Square. The house stands empty, the old stone steps overgrown with thorny rose bushes. But Mary Kate feels a deep connection to the neglected, silent rooms. Could this be the place to help her heal?

Dublin 1952. When Mary Kate Ryan receives a surprise inheritance from the woman who abandoned her as a tiny baby, she’s stunned. All her life, she has longed to know why her mother disappeared, and now she’s devastated to realise that every lonely night she spent without a home or family of her own, her mother knew exactly where she was.

Mary Kate is about to refuse the money when she sees a beautiful, deserted house for sale and something sparks in her heart. She will reawaken it, as the Dublin Boarding House for Single Ladies, and provide a shelter for others as lost and alone as her. Can she help the two young girls left at the local orphanage, desperate for a home of their own? Or the pregnant teenager on the run, who only wants to keep her baby safe?

The boarding house brings Mary Kate love and friendships she never dreamed of, but just as her heart is about to burst with joy, a new guest arrives. The stern older woman won’t speak about her past, but when Mary Kate uncovers her story, it reveals a devastating secret about her mother.

With her life in turmoil once more, can Mary Kate draw on the strength of the women in the house to help her face her past, or will the tragedy she uncovers spell disaster for them all…?

The Wonder of Thunder by Sharon Purtill

The Wonder of Thunder by Sharon Purtill

Do you know a child who is scared or feels uneasy during thunderstorms?

The Wonder of Thunder is a lighthearted children’s rhyming picture book that helps tame fears while highlighting all the wondrous things thunderstorms can do.

Children will adore Sally Storm, a lovable character who excitedly shares all the good she can do as she swirls and tumbles overhead. This early learning picture book introduces the topic of storms, thunder, lightning, and rain in a fun and non-threatening way.

Colourful and captivating illustrations pull children into the story and hold their attention through to the end, where Sally shares more fun facts about thunderstorms and engages children through direct questions.

This book is a terrific resource for parents and teachers who wish to introduce children to the topic of thunderstorms and start a conversation about weather and nature. It’s also a junior picture book that makes designing a lesson plan around the topic of thunderstorms easy for teachers.

The Wonder of Thunder is the perfect gift book for kids who are afraid of thunderstorms.

And after sharing this story, don’t be surprised if the next time the sky roars, the kids look up and say, “that’s Sally!”

  1. The little chicks in the eggs are adorable!
Maybe on next week’s Friday Finds you could share my blog post about the Smashwords sale being held until March 11th. I have a list of free and discounted eBooks, including my books that will be free and on sale!
Thanks and have a great weekend!

  2. I’d love to be author/blogger of the week sometime!

-As for my favourite blogs, I’m not very good at checking them every week, but some good ones are The Witty and Sarcastic Book Club and Sue’s Musings.

And last but not least: umm, congratulations seem to be the wrong word perhaps, but I’m glad Tom recovered well, and you didn’t catch it!
