My thoughts on The Wrong Side of Murder
I enjoyed the first Nikki Bryant book and feared the next one wouldn’t live up to my expectations. I should have known Lauren Carr would not let me down!
In this edition, Nikki is solving murders from the past and present. Carr does an excellent job of tying all the storylines and clues together so you know Nikki will find the answers.
There is so much to love about this story:
Elmo, the OCD pooch who cleans up after everyone is back and stealing hearts again.
Nikki and Ryan are newly reunited after breaking up years ago when Ryan’s Dad and Nikki’s Mom fell in love while chaperoning their high school dance. Oh, how embarrassing to have your parents doing the lift from Dirty Dancing at your prom!
The many clues, some blatant and some slightly hidden, bring the mystery to life. There are so many characters that have motives and opportunities.
Kathleen, Nikki’s mother, always brings a laugh to the story, especially when she tries to ground her 36-year-old daughter and sends her off to bed without Trudy’s delicious dinner.
Trudy, cook extraordinaire for the B&B, makes me chuckle with delight and long to have her recipes.
I should also mention that Lauren Carr writes G-rated sizzle extremely well. I didn’t need a written
description to feel the heat between the main couple.
Some just plain mean and nasty characters in this book are so easy to root against. I practically cheered when they got their comeuppance!
I highly recommend The Wrong Side of Murder to all lovers of cozy mysteries with clean romance, humor, and well-written characters…including Elmo, the highly personable Boxer.
My only complaint…I need another Nikki Bryant story soon.
