Welcome to the 03-08-2024 edition of the weekly Friday Finds.
This week has been different. I have been staying with the Illinois grandkids while their parents were out of town. So, I’ve been a little light on reading and blogging while I took them to their activities. But I’ve had a blast.
We went to the last home Illini basketball game. It was an experience! It was senior night, and the Assembly Hall (it will just never be the State Farm Center to me) was sold out. The Illini played the number two team in the country, Purdue, and while the Illini lost, they played exceptionally well.
Many celebrities were in attendance, including Brett Eldridge, my granddaughter’s favorite country singer. It’s hard to believe he’s the same kid who ran around with my daughter in high school and has even been to my house several times.
We loved attending my 6th-grade grandson’s school band and chorus concert. He sang well and enjoyed playing his violin in the school concert band.
While I love every minute I get to spend with them, it’s always nice to get back home.
Until next week, Peace & Love to you!
Gina

Here are a couple of books that I stumbled across this week. The first is from the teenage girl sitting by me at the concert this week. Her Mom told her to quit reading and watch her brother play. She replied “I can’t! This book is just too good to put down.” Cue the “book reviewer” who had to get the scoop! If you like to read by genre, this ticks the boxes for Teen, Young Adult, Thiller, Suspense, Diversity, and Multi-Cultural.

Gossip Girl meets Get Out in Ace of Spades, a YA contemporary thriller by debut author Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé about two students, Devon & Chiamaka, and their struggles against an anonymous bully.

My grand-daughter recommended this series as another “can’t put it down” series of books. This is book one.
They All Had A Reason: A rumor. A secret. A lie. A murder. by Michele Leathers
One of them will have to go, for the others to survive!
Charlotte is convinced her life would be perfect if she could only get past the one obstacle holding her back: A girl named Bellany Silverfield, who seems to have it all — beauty, popularity, power and the boy of Charlotte’s dreams. But when Bellany is murdered, Charlotte’s life doesn’t get any better. In fact, it gets much worse. Charlotte worries that circumstantial evidence and rumors of motive will make her a prime suspect. She’s forced to question the loyalty of her closest friends and to place her trust in a boy she barely knows. But one of these people is definitely lying to her.

This is my latest scoop from Indie Authors.
I read this quote in Cricket Rohman‘s March newsletter. It sure struck a chord with me. It describes our weather perfectly right now. You should check it out if you love great stories, horses, dogs, cats, mysteries, you get the idea.
“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot, and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light and winter in the shade.” ~ Charles Dickens
Author R. Weir sent this news in recently.
My big news is Murder by a Hundred Cuts is in my editor’s hands. Tina already telling me, “Wow she loved it!” She says she’ll have the edits to me by the end of next week and when I get it, I’ll need to go through all the changes and tighten up the story. Once that is done, it’s back to Tina for one final read-through. When I get to that point, I will set a release date. Right now I’m thinking it will fall sometime in May. My graphic artist is working on three concepts for the cover for me to decide on. I will have a sneak peek of the cover in the next couple of months.
The Divine Devils won The Silver Falchion Award for Best Thriller a few years ago. Maybe I can recreate the magic with the new book I’m working on now.

[…] Last week’s Friday Finds featured yarn and embroidery. So, I searched for something a little different this week. […]
Yes, I’m doing that corned beef crockpot feast, and enjoy reading your excellent reviews! Intarsia?
I was going for Marquetry. But it seems there are a variety of answers so everyone who comments gets an entry (or 2 for email subscribers). Thanks for the kind comments, Eve!
Thanks so much for including my book promo for Smashwords in your email!
Your trivia question has me stumped! I think it’s just called Inlay because Marquetry is just gluing pieces onto wood, but Inlay involves inlaying into the wood. So that’s my long answer, lol!
Have a great weekend!
