Friday Finds - February 27, 2026
Hi friends - welcome to this week's Friday Finds.
February always feels like a strange in-between month to me. The rush of the new year has faded, but spring still feels far away. If you've been feeling a little stretched thin or mentally noisy lately, you're not alone. This week's mix leans into small resets, steady leadership, and practical calm - the kind that helps us keep moving forward without burning out.
🪷 Tip of the Week - Small Resets Matter
We all get overwhelmed at times. Learning to recognize it before it becomes too much is the key - and honestly, I struggle with this a lot. I'm more of the pound my head on the desk type when things go wrong. But I've learned that if I catch the feeling early enough, a few small resets can make a big difference. Walking away, getting a drink, and stretching are usually my first steps toward resetting my mood and focus.
- Walk away for 10 minutes. Physically leave the room if you can. Change your visual input. It resets more than we think.
- Hydrate before you escalate. A glass of cold water, tea, or coffee buys your nervous system time.
- Stretch your shoulders and neck. Overwhelm often lives in our bodies before we realize it.
- Do one tiny, controllable task. Clearing one email or tidying one small space restores a sense of progress.
If this week has felt heavy, consider this your permission slip to slow down a little. The books below will be waiting - no rushing required.
This section rotates between healthy tips, recipes, patterns, and crafts, so if this week's tip doesn't quite fit where you are right now, there is always something different coming up in future Friday Finds.
⭐ Gina's Featured Friday Finds - February 27, 2026
Sometimes breathing exercises work - and sometimes we need something a little more tangible. These reader extras are simple tools that help shift energy when calm feels just out of reach.
🥊 Move the Stress Out When sitting still makes overwhelm worse, a rhythm-based boxing trainer turns frustration into movement. It's a quick, physical reset that helps release tension before it builds into burnout. |
🐠 Create a Quiet MomentGentle movement and soft lighting create a natural focal point for your eyes and mind. A small aquarium can transform a corner of your space into a quiet visual retreat. |
⚖️ Settle Your FocusSubtle, grounding pressure can help the body relax so the mind can follow. This leaf-shaped lap pad is especially helpful during reading or focused work sessions. |
🌊 Soften the Background Noise The layered water flow and warm lighting add gentle sound and motion to a room. It's an easy way to create a more peaceful atmosphere for reading or unwinding. |

🌟 Indie Author of the Week - Friday Finds - February 27, 2026
V.G. Harrison
Amazon best-selling author V.G. Harrison enjoys creating intelligent heroines who are more comfortable dealing with Fine-structure constants and quantum entanglement than the fallout from their conflict. She loves to write stories that leave her audience so engaged they can't sleep at night, thinking about the possibilities.
V.G. holds a Bachelor's in Biomedical Engineering and a Master's in Information Technology. When she's not writing, she's an IT manager for a healthcare information systems company.
Her ever-growing list of hobbies includes astronomy, attending comic cons, keeping an eye on the cryptocurrency and stock markets, hydroponics gardening, hiking, and connecting with her daughter, Collie, on a cool level. Building Lego sets at night with milk and cookies on the side comes in handy for that.
📚 Featured Book
Abandon Station, Dyson Bridge Book #1 → Read my review
A story where intelligence and calm thinking matter as much as technology.
This week's Indie Author feature highlights V.G. Harrison and her science fiction novel Abandon Station, the first book in The Dyson Bridge Series. I chose this one today because beneath the interdimensional disaster and looming planetary destruction is something deeply relatable - a leader trying to stay steady when everything has gone sideways. Chief Engineer Meridia Vail doesn't get the luxury of spiraling. She assesses, adapts, and acts. In a week where overwhelm feels close to the surface, I find something grounding in stories about competence under pressure. If you enjoy smart science fiction with strong character focus and real consequences, this series is well worth discovering - and the story continues in Among Us (Dyson Bridge Book 2), which I've also reviewed here on the blog.

Love your reset tips reminders! Right now those are part of daily life. Thanks Gina!
I've been saying to myself for years that I would love to take up chess, but I've never managed to put aside any time to do so. With an extra hour a week . . . I finally might get around to it!
That would be fun. I’m not sure what I would do. Probably just sit with my eyes closed & rest. lol.
Another great post, Gina!
I'd try and create something with my art supplies. It's calming and always a great way for me to, "reset." 🙂
That's a great calming option. I love it, Rosie.
If I had a free hour each week, I'd spend it writing!
You write it…I’ll read it.
I always look forward to your Friday Finds post Gina. I especially loved this week's small resets tip as a reminder and want to add that I find a ten minute snuggle with my furbabies works wonders as a reset.
If I had an extra hour, I would make homemade chocolate chip cookies for my family and friends.
You do count me as a friend right? I love chocolate chip cookies!
Oh Kyles, furbabies are a wonderful calming tool. But snuggles are good anytime! Thanks so much for reading!
For contest if had extra 1 hour I'd spend it reading a good book
What are you reading this weekend?
