Friday Finds - May 8, 2026 | Thoughtful Reads, Cozy Keepsakes & Reader Favorites
Happy Friday, friends! This week's Friday Finds feels a little more thoughtful and nostalgic than usual in the best possible way. Between stories told through letters, treasured recipes, and books that linger long after the final page, I found myself thinking about the small things we hold onto and revisit over time.
So this week's collection is filled with comforting reads, meaningful keepsakes, and a few reader-inspired finds that celebrate slowing down and savoring the experience a little more.
✨ Special Find of the Week
The Forever Post
Rediscover the charm of real mail with beautifully crafted serialized fiction letters delivered right to your door every two weeks.
I'm currently reading Desire & Lies, and there is something wonderfully immersive about stories told in epistolary form. Adding the anticipation of a new letter arriving in the mail makes the experience feel even more personal and memorable.
I already find myself looking forward to the next delivery so I can settle in with my coffee and catch up on the latest "news."
I think my next adventure may involve letters from Dr. Alzheimer. Which story would you choose first?

🌟 Indie Author of the Week - Friday Finds May 8, 2026
Gail Ward Olmsted
This week's Indie Author of the Week is Gail Ward Olmsted, whose thoughtful historical and contemporary fiction continues to stay with me long after I finish reading.
Gail Ward Olmsted was a marketing executive and a college professor before she began writing fiction on a full-time basis. A trip to Sedona, AZ inspired her first novel Jeep Tour. Three more novels followed before Landscape of a Marriage, a biographical fiction featuring landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, a distant cousin of her husband's, and his wife Mary.
Olmsted enjoys writing about quirky, wonderful women in search of a second chance at a happy ever after. When not writing, she loves being on the water, especially in a kayak. She is well known for her blonde brownies and coffee is her love language.
📚 Featured Book: Katharine's Remarkable Road Trip
One of my favorite discoveries from Gail Ward Olmsted is Katharine's Remarkable Road Trip - a fascinating blend of historical fiction, biographical storytelling, and unforgettable character writing.
Katharine Prescott Wormeley completely won me over with her sharp wit, fearless independence, and refusal to fit neatly into the expectations of her time. The story pulled me in so deeply that I found myself researching the real historical figures and taking notes along the way because I didn't want to lose a single detail.
What stayed with me most was Katharine herself: honest, complicated, intelligent, and wonderfully unapologetic. This is the kind of book that makes history feel vividly alive rather than distant.
If you enjoy strong women, immersive historical settings, or stories that blur the line between fiction and real life, this is absolutely worth adding to your reading list.

I was also excited to hear she has a new contemporary novel releasing this fall, which gives me another reason to keep Gail Ward Olmsted on my reading radar.

📚 Tip of the Week: Beat the Book Hangover Before It Starts
One of the easiest ways to avoid that "what do I read now?" slump is to keep a "next up" book nearby before you finish your current one.
It doesn't have to be a carefully planned TBR system. Just having another book within reach - on your nightstand, loaded on your Kindle, or waiting in your bag - makes it easier to slip right into your next reading adventure without losing momentum.
Bonus tip: try choosing something with a different tone or pacing than the book you just finished. After an emotional read, I often reach for something lighter or more comforting as a reset.
Sometimes the hardest part of finishing a wonderful book is figuring out how to leave its world behind. Having another story ready helps soften the landing a little.
This section rotates between healthy tips, recipes, crafts/patterns, and reading life, so if this week's tip isn't quite for you, there is always something different coming up in a future Friday Finds.

💬 Reader Contest Question of the Week
⭐ Join the conversation: Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or do you usually have several going at once?
- One at a time only for me.
- I like having a couple going at once since I'm a mood reader.
- Give me all the books, all the time. No limits on my reading!
I was talking to my daughters about this recently, and they remembered me always having a different book in every room so I could read no matter where I was. I still do that sometimes-as long as the genres aren't too closely related. Otherwise, I start mixing up characters, plots, and magic systems, which can get very confusing very quickly.
I'd love to hear how you handle your reading life. This is always one of my favorite conversations of the week.
🗓️ Contest closes May 31, 2026 at noon CST.
If your entry arrives after the deadline, never fear! It will be added into next month's drawing.
