Gina’s Friday Finds August 6-2021 –  Books

Billy Summers by Stephen King Cover image for Gina's Friday Finds August 6-2021 Billy Summers by Stephen King

Billy Summers is a man in a room with a gun. He’s a killer for hire and the best in the business. But he’ll do the job only if the target is a truly bad guy. And now Billy wants out. But first there is one last hit. Billy is among the best snipers in the world, a decorated Iraq war vet, a Houdini when it comes to vanishing after the job is done. So what could possibly go wrong?

How about everything.

This spectacular can’t-put-it-down novel is part war story, part love letter to small town America and the people who live there, and it features one of the most compelling and surprising duos in King fiction, who set out to avenge the crimes of an extraordinarily evil man. It’s about love, luck, fate, and a complex hero with one last shot at redemption.

You won’t put this story down, and you won’t forget Billy.

‘Twas the night before kindergarten,
and as they prepared,

kids were excited,
and a little bit scared.

It’s the first day of school! Join the kids as they prepare for kindergarten, packing school supplies, posing for pictures, and the hardest part of all—saying good-bye to Mom and Dad. But maybe it won’t be so hard once they discover just how much fun kindergarten really is! Colorful illustrations illuminate this uplifting takeoff on the classic Clement C. Moore Christmas poem.

  1. I just discovered your blog today. I will be back. I love adding books to my “to read” list. I always have several books going at once (print & ebooks). I never know what I’ll be in the mood for

  2. One of my major epic fails was making a ham & cheese omelet by myself with no help for the very first time. It came out sloppy and not even close to being how a ham& cheese omelet should look when it’s done. To say the least, it was a major epic recipe fail. AAAHHH!!!

  3. My vote is for the Stephen King Book. That book sounds and looks intriguing, thrilling, captivating, like a page turner and boy would I love to read and review in print format.
Really enjoyed the recipe and that other people have epic fails with recipes other than myself.
    Thanks for a great post.

  4. Hope you’re feeling better! Here’s one recipe I’ve used from Breads and Wine by Shauna. Neiquist:

    Ingredients
4 cups blueberries (or any fruit, really)
    Crisp topping:
    1 cup old fashioned oats
    ½ cup pecans
½ cup almond meal (available at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, health food stores, or made by putting almonds in food processor until fine, but before they turn to almond butter)
    ¼ cup maple syrup
    ¼ cup olive oil
    ½ tsp salt
    Instructions
Pour four cups fruit into 8×8 pan. Spread crisp topping over the fruit. Bake at 350 degrees 35-40 minutes, or longer if topping and fruit are frozen, until fruit is bubbling and topping is crisp and golden.
    Serves 4

  5. I said that I liked the blog post about the red fence in my comment last week. Was that the wrong blog post to pick? Or did you mean I have to leave a comment on the actual blog saying it’s my favorite? I guess I’ll do that this week so I don’t forget.
This week I liked The Great Weight Debate by Amy Newman Shapiro and I entered the giveaway and left a comment there too. Thanks!
    Have a great weekend! 🙂

    • Oh Jessica, You did indeed leave the correct comment in the correct place last week. I am so sorry about that. I confused The Red Fence & The Invisible String in my head. I’m telling you, I don’t function well on meds!! haha. Yes, leave a comment on the current Friday Finds post with your favorite from the past week’s posts. You are good for next week’s drawing!!! Thanks so much for being such a loyal reader of the newsletter & the blog. I’ll add you to the sidebar later and make you my featured author for the next week!

  6. Eve

Oh Gina! I’m so sorry you’re on cold meds. Hope you can shake those soon. I have recipe fails every week. Lol. Like the meatloaf in a bundt pan recipe–I wanted it to look all pretty with the ketchup topping, etc. But, the recipe called for 1.5 lbs of meat and two eggs. I used 2 lbs and 2 eggs and then wondered why everything became a giant, messy crumble!! Anyway, your blackberry bars look delicious.

  7. Hi Gina, love your blog and Friday Finds.
I look forward to checking out the books you mentioned and the yummy recipes.
Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.
