This terrific book is a hit with my young grandsons.
The illustrations are vivid and beautiful. The rhyming & easy to follow words make this perfect for young readers.
We enjoyed the messages of conservation and sustainability.
I can’t wait I for the next Lulu and Malek adventure!

Gill Guile – Illustrator Spotlight by June N. Foster
I would love for you to meet Gill Guile, our amazing Illustrator for Lulu and Malek Sail Off to Sea!
Over two years ago, Rob and I scoured over 50 illustrators for our story, Lulu and Malek Sail Off to Sea! The illustrations we viewed were incredible, but we had a particular look and feel in mind. When we came upon Gill’s profile of work, we stopped in our tracks and knew we didn’t need to look further. Her colors were vibrant, the details for each setting were spectacular, and most of all, her character’s expressions were absolutely delightful—filled with immense joy and whimsy.
Although Gill resides in the United Kingdom, working with her was seamless—as if she had been sitting right next to us during each step of the process. She took our vision for each storyline, sprinkled on her creative magic, and brought each page to life in stunning detail.
Many years ago, Gill was inspired to become an illustrator after reading and seeing the illustrations found in the fairy tales by The Brothers Grimm. Since then, Gill has illustrated many fairy tales and hopes that children around the world will be “…as smitten with one of my illustrations as I was so many years ago.”
She has been illustrating for over 35 years having first began her career designing postage stamps for the Commonwealth countries, and later designing t-shirts, packaging, and greeting cards. But her dream was to become a book illustrator. To date, Gill has illustrated more than 600 titles with over 20 publishers, 50 of which she wrote and illustrated herself!
Gill is extremely versatile, creating her art using a wide variety of different modes. Lulu and Malek Sail Off to Sea paintings, as an example were created in acrylic gouache which made them vibrant and full of life. She was kind enough to sign and send to many of the paintings to us!
Gill also illustrated our second children’s book that Rob and I hope to publish in 2023. We can hardly wait for you to see these amazing illustrations! In addition, Gill sketched black and white drawings for my upcoming short-story collection. Her detailed sketches move me to the core as I deeply feel the characters’ emotion, circumstance, and setting.
We feel so blessed to have found Gill who has captured our stories in a beautiful, fun, and amazing light. She was wonderful to work with and Rob and I are honored to have her as our Illustrator. Thank you, Gill!
