Dragon gods rule the realm, demons lurk in the shadows and a sorcerer hides a dangerous secret. A war is brewing in Jothesia, and the gods have no idea.

Being selected as human sacrifice to the immortal dragon shifters is supposedly an honor, but rebellious Libby doesn’t see it that way. When the sacrificial ritual goes badly wrong, she finds herself in a reluctant alliance with eldest god Rhetahn. He’s grumpy, cynical and utterly exasperating …and she can’t get him out of her head.

Rhetahn knows there’s something wrong with this sacrifice, and it’s not just her infuriating stubbornness or the way she makes his jaded heart skip a beat. When misfortune befalls his brothers and renders him powerless, his only choice is to unite with Libby to seek answers.

Setting out on a dangerous quest across the realm, the compelling attraction between them is undeniable, yet doomed. To recover his magic, regain his strength and prevent the demons from seizing power, Rhetahn needs her blood. He must kill her at the end of their journey, even if it breaks his heart to do so.

But a terrible power lies hidden in Jothesia, one that could destroy everything the gods have built. Libby and Rhetahn’s forbidden relationship may be the realm’s only hope against utter ruin.

A word from the author: Please note this is Book 1 of a duology and ends with an HFN (Happy For Now). The couple's full HEA (Happy Ever After) will follow in Book 2.

Also, please note the following content notes/warnings: Mild-moderate blood, cursing, death/dying, deep water attack/trauma, drugging/poisoning, kidnap/forceful deprivation of personal autonomy, mention of suicide, sexual contact (consensual), violence, vomiting

My thoughts on Sacrifice (The Gods of Trivium, Book #1)

Book 1 of The Gods of Trivium, Sacrifice, grips the reader from the opening pages. Libby is a fantastic female lead character. While she is facing death by sacrifice, her wit, determination, and spirit never let her down.

Rhetahn, the Dragon God, plays his part to the hilt. He’s rather conceited, which is understandable when you are worshiped for eternity by the world. He’s also a bit obtuse about how ordinary people think and react.

When you mix these two characters together, sparks fly in more ways than one! I’m confident I chuckled during many of the dramatic interplays between the characters. I absolutely love witty banter, and this book is chock-full of delightful wittiness, even in the face of overwhelming dangers.

The author’s world-building skills are never in doubt. Every scene played like a movie in my mind while I was reading. I promise once you start this book, it will be difficult to put down.

Being every bit as claustrophobic as Rhetahn, the underground tunnels nearly paralyzed me. But, luckily the tale was so intense that I whizzed right through those tunnels with only minimal elevation of my heart rate. I spent a lot of time holding my breath while reading this story. The demons are atrocious, and the friends that help our duo on their dangerous journey could not be more needed.

I’m finding it difficult to put my thoughts on paper without spoiling the story for readers. Let me just say this is an epic tale of dragons, Gods, demons, shifters, and ordinary folks doing their best to survive the war between good and evil.

I give Sacrifice my highest rating and hope you will grab a copy today. This BBNYA finalist deserves all the accolades it receives! I can not wait to read book two!
