About Natascha Birovljev
Natascha Birovljev is a storyteller at heart and author of the “Willow Ranch” book series.
Growing up in Germany, horses were always part of her life. After getting her Master degree in Religious Studies and German Literature, adventure was calling and she traveled to Alberta. She fell in love with the wild beauty of the Rocky Mountains and immigrated from Germany to Canada in 2005.
Here she worked the first years as a guide for horseback vacations, exploring mountain trails and spending the summer months in tent camps in the wilderness.
Inspired by her adventures and connections to ranchers, cowboys and First Nation communities, she started writing her books. Natascha lives on her ranch in Alberta with her horses and dogs.
Her stories show her fascination with the beauty of the Rocky Mountain wilderness and her love for the people she encounters.

Unpronounceable but Unforgettable: Why I Embraced My Tongue-Twister Last Name Instead of Choosing a Pen Name!
Maybe you already stumbled over my seemingly unpronounceable last name. It is my birth name and when I published my first book in Germany, some marketing experts told me that I should use a pen name. The reasons, they pointed out to me, did make sense, but something in me simply refused to come up with an easy, more tongue friendly author name.
I believe strongly in authenticity and believe that using a pen name can make it harder to build an authentic connection with my audience. I still think my readers feel more connected to me as a writer, because I use my real name, as it creates a sense of trust and transparency.
My name is part of my identity, and it is, I admit, a source of personal pride. By using my real name, I take ownership of my work, and I show the world that I’m proud of who I am and grateful for my accomplishments.
The stories I tell in my Willow Ranch Series are fictional, but my experiences living on a ranch in Western Canada do inspire and influence my storytelling. Recently a reader, who knows me personally as well, pointed out that she felt I was with her, while she was reading my books.
“I felt like you took me by the hand and showed me the Willow Ranch, introduced me to the characters and I always felt welcomed at your campfire. It almost felt as if you were a character in the book as well.”
I loved her words and felt very humbled and grateful to have given her these emotions. And it showed me yet again, that keeping my last name was the right decision for my book series.
