With a fiery passion for both each other and their common cause, they hatch a twisted plan—the first step: to assemble a loyal team of hotshots, each with a specific skill set.

Assigned to special regions worldwide, the team launches a two-week campaign to conquer war, anger, and hate. One slip-up, and they could all end up in jail... and the keen Detective Vega, who seems to be on to them, is asking too many questions.

But can Linda and Eric’s love survive the distance, and will all the love in the world be enough to create peace on Earth?

My thoughts on The Happy War by Eve Gaal

I went into this story blind, and I’m so glad I did. Every twist and turn added to the intrigue. The entire concept of making the world happy is so far-fetched (also illegal, lol) that I was rooting for Linda, Eric, and their team to succeed.

Every time I thought I should go to bed, the story demanded I read one more page, then a chapter. Finally, I decided I had to know how this adventure ends, so I read it cover to cover in one day.

The characters were quirky, fun, and scary at the same time. Each one added a needed dimension to the story. Linda had the cushiest part of the scheme, thanks to her new boyfriend, Eric. Still, she faces multiple dangers from bears, crocodiles, and angry police. Her plan would never come to fruition without Eric’s master planning and his former military commando unit coming to their aid. What a fantastic concept they dreamed up to make the entire world a happier place. If only it were this simple. However, the characters might disagree with the term, simple, as they put their lives, relationships, and freedom at stake for the planet’s benefit.

The story is well-crafted, the characters believable, and the plot moves quickly to keep you engaged. The reader just needs a slight suspension of reality to believe this Happy War is feasible. Reading this book over the winter break made it especially poignant. We can all use a dose of happiness going into 2021.

About Eve Gaal

Eve Gaal Author Profile Image

Eve Gaal’s writing began with a toy typewriter she received at age four. Much later, she wrote poems for school publications and work related newsletters until landing a job writing ad copy and selling advertising space for major metropolitan and community newspapers.

Her first novel Penniless Hearts, is part adventure, part romance, and a gentle reminder to communicate. Eve has published poems, fiction stories and non-fiction, in various anthologies, some of which are: Anything Prose and Poetry Too, Open Doors-Fractured Fairy Tales, and Not Your Mother’s Book on Dogs and Travel. She followed up Penniless Hearts with Penniless Souls, also a travel adventure but set in the Nevada desert. A short faith-based novella titled, The Fifth Commandment came later and most recently, The Happy War, which is also a romantic travel adventure.

When not writing she likes swimming, reading and walking her Chihuahua.
