My thoughts on The Thirteenth Hour
The Thirteenth Hour is a thrilling tale of two protagonists, Kayl, a Vesper with extraordinary magical abilities who rebels against the gods, and Quen, a Diviner with time-manipulating skills who works for Chime’s law enforcement agency. The story centers around mysterious aether beings who consume souls and a perplexing mystery involving Kayl and Quen’s past, the world, and their own identity.
Narrated from both Kayl and Quen’s distinct perspectives, the story delves into their relationship, which is complicated, with moments of cooperation as well as conflict. There is also a hint of romance that the author skillfully weaves into the narrative. The supporting characters are well-crafted and fascinating, providing depth to the story.
The world-building in The Thirteenth Hour is extensive and remarkable, with vivid descriptions that transport the reader to a captivating setting. The gods in this world are merciless and use their powers to control mortals’ souls, adding to the depth of the narrative.
The pacing of the story is steady, with action scenes breaking up longer world-building and back story sections. The book is skillfully written and engrossing, holding the reader’s attention from start to finish.
Overall, The Thirteenth Hour is an imaginative and entertaining story with a satisfying conclusion that sets the stage for a sequel.
