My thoughts on Winter Frost
My love of Lauren Carr’s writing style grows with every book I read. I thought the Mac Faraday series would be hard to top, but I’m rapidly falling in love with Chris Mathewson and his “Geezer Squad”.
The story starts off with a bang and gets better with every chapter. What would you do if while on a date, you saw your long-deceased spouse about to be murdered on the subway? See what I mean, instant mystery. Then we embark on a twisty path of FBI, CIA, and the Geezer Squad trying to solve a cold case while the mysteries keep piling up.
Nobody write pet personalities as well as Lauren Carr. Sterling, Thor, and many other scene-stealing animals add just the right amount of humor to what could have been a heavy book. Lauren is not too shabby at writing teens, either. I could almost feel those teenage eye rolls.
Every character in the book is so well-defined, I feel like I personally know them all. The settings are descriptive and the tension draws you to the edge of your seat…repeatedly!
While each of the books in this series is written to stand-alone, I always recommend reading books in order for a richer experience. You never know what nuances you might miss.
I highly recommend this book to all lovers of mystery, intrigue, and espionage.
