BOOM!
Another burst of lightning hit the canyon wall and a giant boulder crashed on top of the water-wolves pulling the boats. Unable to avoid the obstacle, Nat’an whipped the reins downwards and slammed them into the platform of the boat.
The river swelled beneath the pontoon, lifting the entire boat over the boulder in the middle of the stream. Once they were clear, the water formed into a wave that propelled the river fleet further down the canyon.
Nat’an stood back up and gave his reins another whip. As the water arched, the wolves appeared again and continued pulling the boats.
They increased the distance between themselves and the smoking figure of the masked man. He continued to volley bolt after bolt but only caught the water or canyon walls behind them.
Nat’an turned and looked over his shoulder with a smile. “I think we can lose him up here—”
The pontoon lurched in the air and came crashing back into the river. Theo dropped his harpoon, lost his footing, and slipped off the back end of the platform into the river.
“Theo!” Oli screamed as he dove for the prince, missing his hand as he went overboard.
“Rhan!” Nat’an called out.
Without more than a glance between each other, Rhan threw herself overboard after Theo.
Oli watched as a giant eagle made of blue flame amassed under her just before she hit the water and lifted her above the river. She leaned off the side of the eagle’s back and reached down for Theo who was flapping his arms over the river.

My “Pandemic Project” is Done!
By Antony Soehner
The original title for the document file of my book, “The Prince,” was “My Pandemic Project.” We all remember the early stages of the Covid19 pandemic when the world shut down for what was supposed to be two weeks. By the middle of March of 2020, I had found myself manic and in need of something to occupy my overwhelming amount of free time.
There was one night while I was hanging out on my back patio when suddenly images started to flash in my head. There was a scene of a king giving himself his own monologue during a rainstorm. I had this moment of a kingdom in mourning as their queen’s casket marched through the streets draped in black. I wanted to create an evil wizard who entered the story like Jason Issacs in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” But what I was struggling to piece together is how all of these moments could come together.
Then it slapped me in the face. The story wasn’t about them at all. I rushed inside, grabbed my laptop, and opened a new document on my Drive. I spent the rest of that night creating Theo’s journey and eventually when the sun came up, I had the first chapter and a half ready. Not long after that, I changed the title of my project to “The Prince” and here we are now, a little over two years later.
It’s crazy to think about all the things both Theo and I have gone through in that time. We’re both now four books into his Saga and I can tell you neither of us is the same. I’m super excited to bring readers into our story and share the epic fantasy world we’ve created for you!
