Then a stab of joyous pain slices down his leg. With renewed hope, Miles leaves behind the shackles of Dr. Viktor’s house and travels east to the training grounds of the Queen’s Guard.

My thoughts on Miles and the Soldier
This is an amazing series. From book one, Juno and the Lady, through both novellas, to book two, Miles and the Soldier, the author captivated with his stories.
Miles and the Soldier might be my favorite so far. It brings excitement, action, heartbreak and exuberance.
The book can certainly be read as a stand-alone, but I believe the reader will have a richer experience by reading the books in order. There is enough backstory provided to keep the reader from becoming confused.
In this book we learn of more acres (lands) that each hold different dangers but all tie together with the story. Miles encounters vampires, undead, and mysterious children with strange powers. He is forced to choose time and again between family, friends, and defeating the evil creeping through the land.
The book is well-written with no errors and the pace is gripping. GJ Kemp keeps you turning page after page deep into the night. We get more hints as to the mysterious person behind all the evil so I know future stories will be just as captivating.
I recommend this to lovers of action and adventure. The book even has a bit of steampunk feel, at times. I look forward to seeing what comes next in the Acre world.
I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
