Do you want to read a child a family-oriented book they will enjoy and learn something about another culture?

Jeanette Fiumenero has written “The Secret at Welsh Hill Farm” as an endearing way to introduce Welsh traditions to children.

The Matthews family could not figure out the secret to what made their apples taste so good. Learn what the grandchildren Ken and Gwen did at the farm to entertain themselves and their grandparents and the song they wrote about the “tinkle pot.”

The story touches on several family values, but the main theme is “love.” There are Welsh recipes and common Welsh words at the end of the book.

A sweet story for both children and adults.

My thoughts on The Secret at Welsh Hill Farm

There is a secret at Welsh Hill Farm.

Lyneth, a very old Apple tree residing in the middle of Welsh Hill Farm, narrates this story. She begins her tale when Mr. & Mrs. Matthews immigrate to the United States as a young couple. Throughout the years, love blooms on the farm, and Lyneth produces the best apples.

But what happens when strife comes to the family farm? How does it affect future generations? For that matter, what happens to Lyneth because of the troubles? You’ll have to read this delightful story to find the answers.

The illustrations reflect more than just the story being told. They show the emotions and pay tribute to the Welsh ancestry of the characters.

The author wrote this particular story as a tribute to her mother, and the love shines through on every page. In a nod to her Welsh ancestry, she includes two Welsh recipes, an info sheet on Wales, and a glossary of Welsh terms and pronunciations.

I recommend The Secret at Welsh Hill Farm to readers of all ages. It would make a wonderful gift.

About Jeanette Fiumenero

Jeanette Fiumenero Author Profile image

Jeanette Fiumenero is of Welsh heritage and was born near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She and her siblings spent wonderful times on their great grandfather's Sunny Side Farm, learning about nature and living in a rural community. She has an optimistic, fun-loving and child-like nature and loves connecting with people. Besides other creative pursuits, she enjoys conducting her Perfumenero perfume parties, where guests create their own fragrances. She has always felt like a "late bloomer" when compared to her contemporaries; she finished her college degree and married later in life than most and never had children. She has learned that life is not a race to be won but rather an adventure to be slowly savored.

It was not until the death of her mother in 2020 that she had an epiphany to write "The Secret at Welsh Hill Farm." Her mother tried in vain many years ago to publish a young adult novel about a young Welsh girl living in America in the late 1800's. Jeanette urged her mother to write a book about life on Sunny Side Farm, but her mother never did. Jeanette wrote this book in memory of her mother Gwendolyn and as a way to introduce children to the Welsh culture that her mother was so proud of. Jeanette's hope is that this first book will be successful and lead to a series of "Welsh Hill Farm" books.
