Mrs. Elizabeth Adare is on a mission to bring a smuggler to justice, and nobody is going to get in her way, not even the charismatic Lord Langdon. With the aid of the intriguing lord, she follows the clues to a troubling discovery; one that could expose her own secrets.

Excerpt from Love, Untruths, and the Smuggler’s Ruse

“If I say yes, I have some rules and they are non-negotiable.” If he couldn’t dissuade Elizabeth, he would try to gain some concessions to assure her safety. “You will promise to follow my directions without question.”

“What if you’re incapacitated?” Head tilted, she studied him with shrewd eyes.

Langdon could see the cogs moving in her sharp mind. She was intent on getting her way, and so was he. Which meant they would have to find some sort of compromise, or the process was dead in the water. “I don’t intend to become incapacitated or injured for that matter. At the first sign of trouble, you will hide where I tell you until I can come find you.”

“What if we’re ambushed? Am I allowed to come to your aide, or must I find a couch and faint?”

He narrowed his eyes at her dripping sarcasm. “I will have your word that you will obey me without question, or my answer is no.”

“We both know that is an empty threat.” She plucked at a small piece of thread on the lace applique, a stray curl brushing her temple. “You can’t go without me. You don’t know what you’re looking for.”

“And you can’t go without me because you don’t know how to get into his office.” Arms crossed, he leaned back in the seat, one leg extended. Two could play at being stubborn.

My thoughts on Love, Untruths, and the Smuggler’s Ruse

Love, Untruths, and the Smuggler's Ruse (A Tenet Gentlemen's Club #2) book cover image

Love, Untruth, and the Smuggler’s Ruse, part of the Tenet Gentleman’s series, lives up to the earlier book’s reputation. Langdon and Elizabeth provide witty banter, exceptional detective skills, and best of all…Sizzle.

I gained more respect for Elizabeth with every chapter. Her caring heart, quick mind, and solid backbone rival the heroines of many great novels. Langdon could be romantic and follow it up the next instant with his overbearing manner.

Will Elizabeth make him see her as a woman of worth, or will her “untruths” be too much of a barrier?

And now for my fundamental critique.

The pacing breathtakingly moves from one adventure to the next to keep you flipping the pages. I read the Kindle Unlimited version of the book and only saw two tiny spelling errors, so the proofreading/editing is very well done. The story fits nicely into the Regency Romance genre. The characters were well-written, and the scenes were quite vivid. The sexual scenes are “open-door.”

I think fans of romance, particularly those of Regencies with strong women and handsome roguish males, will love this book.

I received a copy of the book for the tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
